Manifesting and Mental Health- Part 1

Note: This is a post about the Law of Attraction (LOA). For a background on LOA click here. :)

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, so if you're having mental/physical issues please seek medical help in addition to reading this. :)

In my LOA Round-up post I mentioned how I was planning to write about manifesting and mental health. You can read that post here: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2019/04/loa-round-up.html

So here is Part 1. I've decided to do it in a couple of parts because I feel like I can't cover everything in one post. :)

You'll often come across Law of Attraction articles, books and videos giving you a specific formula to follow and stories of the wonderful transformations that people have made. The problem is that a certain formula or way of doing things isn't going to work for everyone, because we're all different. We all have different life circumstances. I know you're supposed to be able to overcome all that by "raising your vibration" aka feeling better and changing your energy and beliefs, but what if it's not that simple? Sometimes you can try all these techniques but you just appear to be really STUCK. And what if you are going through a hard time and/or have a mental illness?

This has happened to me, I've found that I'm able to manifest smaller things but not so much the bigger things, like a relationship, holiday etc. And I still struggle with depression, anxiety and OCD. A lot of LOA teachers talk about how they've miraculously changed their lives and share the techniques that work for them (sometimes for a lot of money, which not everyone can afford). But the same techniques aren't necessarily going to work for everyone because not we're not all the same and we have different issues and challenges. I thought I'd look at how mental health affects manifesting.

Last year I came across a post called What "Law of Attraction" Experts Don't Tell You. You can read it here: http://www.riseaboveliving.com/lawofattractionexpertsdonttellyou/

Sarah who wrote the post, says that the main thing the experts are missing is healing. Because if you're in a bad place, then you can try all the stuff they suggest (e.g. visualising, scripting, "acting as if", setting intentions), but you will probably struggle to shift much, feel better and manifest what you really want. Although maybe you will be able to depending on your beliefs/energy. Perhaps you have a strong enough belief it can override all that. I obviously can't speak for everyone. :)

The post mentions making a commitment to heal every day. This will look different for everyone and I wouldn't encourage you to force yourself to do certain techniques or anything if it doesn't feel right.

Note: If you have a mental illness/disorder hopefully you're under a doctor's care and receiving the treatment that's best for you, whether that's medication and/or therapy, and other things.

In 2017 I wrote a couple of posts about the Law of Attraction called Design Your Universe. You can see them both below:

Design Your Universe- Part 1: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2017/03/design-your-universe-part-1.html

Design Your Universe- Part 2: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2017/06/design-your-universe-part-2.html

In those posts I outlined two steps for manifesting:

1. Feel better.
2. Change your beliefs and believe that your dreams can come true.

I just listed two because I wanted to keep it simple and these felt right for me at the time. But I have often got stuck on both of these! Manifesting "formulas" are often like these:

Abraham Hicks:

Step 1 (your work): You ask.
Step 2 (not your work): The answer is given.
Step 3 (your work): The answer, which has been given, must be received or allowed (you have to let it in).

The Secret:

Ask, believe, receive.

Maybe I should add a 3rd step to mine: Allow your dreams in.

Emotions

In the LOA Round-up post I said how I hadn't felt like writing about the Law of Attraction for a while, I didn't really feel inspired to. In November 2017 I started the Feeling Your Emotions series and I've mostly been concentrating on that. But I'm feeling more like writing about LOA again lately. I felt it was important for me to look at my emotions and emotions in general, and hopefully help others too. I started off with the so-called "negative" ones such as anger, sadness etc., and also mental disorders like depression and anxiety. The last post was a "neutral" one looking at the series so far, and about feeling that you're in a void type of place. I'm planning to move onto more "positive" emotions next, probably starting with happiness. You can see all the FYE series so far below, or by clicking on "Feeling Your Emotions" in the labels of the individual post:

In May I also wrote about feeling like a "loser": https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2019/05/feeling-like-loser.html

Raising your vibration/feeling better

In LOA circles you will hear the phrase "raising your vibration" a lot. It basically means feeling better by raising your overall energetic vibration. I did a post about it in 2014, just an intro about the concept and things that help me to feel better: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2014/10/raising-my-vibration.html

The problem with this is that if you put too much pressure on yourself to feel better, you could end up beating yourself up and blaming yourself because things don't seem to be improving. You might feel like it's your fault because you're in a "low vibration". Also advice is often to "be happy now" but if you're struggling you may not find that easy to do. So I would say work on doing what you can to feel better and manage any mental illness/disorder you have, but don't put pressure on yourself to be happy. :)

I've previously mentioned the Abraham Hicks Emotional Guidance Scale which you will probably have come across if you're interested in LOA. It measures a range of emotions with "fear/grief/depression/despair/powerlessness" etc. right at the bottom and "Joy/appreciation/freedom/love" at the top. Kelsey Aida has a good explanation of it here: https://kelseyaida.com/theinspirationalblog/the-abraham-hicks-emotional-guidance-scale

The thing is, if you're towards the bottom end of the scale (or right on the bottom), it's not necessarily going to be easy to just jump up to the top. So it's suggested that you move up gradually, a bit at a time. Melody Fletcher has a post about it as well: https://melodyfletcher.com/law-of-attraction/law-of-attraction-articles/the-emotional-scale-how-to-deliberately-feel-better/

She also has some suggestions about moving out of depression in her book Deliberate Receiving (Chapter 11).

I hope this post has helped at least a little, if you're also feeling down and stuck in your manifesting. :) I'd had it in mind for a while but didn't know quite how to pull it all together. I plan to explore the subject of manifesting and mental health more in Part 2. I'll round this off with a few more links that I've found useful:

Another post from Robin of Diary of an Empath about why her lows aren't as low anymore:
https://www.thediaryofanempath.com/recentposts/2016/10/23/why-my-lows-arent-as-low-anymore

I just came across this post from Rhiannon Day about negative thought spirals and manifestation: https://www.rhiannonday.com/blog/negative-thought-manifestation

Update 25/5/21: The above post is now gone but I hope you can get the gist of it from what I said below. :)

I was glad to find it because if you're an anxious person when you hear the phrase "Thoughts create things" it can start to panic you that you're going to manifest bad things! But as Rhiannon mentions in the article, it's not necessarily your thoughts creating but more your emotions, your general vibration. I did write a bit about this in the 2nd Fear and Anxiety post too.

Reminder: No judgement if you have depression. No need to blame yourself for feeling low (although I know this can be hard). :)

Have you struggled with manifesting while having issues with your mental health, or just feel stuck in general? Any tips for moving past it? :)

  1. Thanks for this post, this is often what I struggle with, I find I've lived with negative thoughts for so long I can't just suddenly stop. I think the key is to work on the underlying issues first then start trying to manifest. I think it's also best to start small, as otherwise it can get overwhelming and end up making you feel worse.

    1. Hi Alice, thanks for checking out my post. Yes, I think that is a good approach (working on the underlying issues first and then starting small). Hope you find some of the links useful. :)
