Feeling Your Emotions Introduction

I'm starting a series of posts about emotions and how it's important to get in touch with them. So this is the introduction post. :)

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, so if you're having mental/physical issues please seek medical help in addition to reading this. :)

In a lot of spiritual books and articles on websites people mention how your emotions affect you. If you keep them bottled up then they can get stuck and cause you problems. For example suppressing your feelings can cause you to become depressed. Some people talk about the mind/body connection and say that how you feel can cause physical illness. I believe this. An example is Louise Hay's work. For more on that visit this post: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2017/09/my-current-favourite-spiritual-and.html

Life can be difficult and scary. You may feel overwhelmed by all the violence, terror and injustice in the world. I know I do sometimes. Hopefully by understanding and getting in touch with our emotions we can help ourselves to process things better. So I'll focus on emotions such as anger, sadness, love, grief, happiness/joy etc. For now here are some resources to help with understanding your feelings/emotions.

Books

Deliberate Receiving by Melody Fletcher

In this Law of Attraction (LOA) book Melody talks about using your emotions to guide you in terms of manifesting. Feeling good means you're closer to what you want and feeling bad means you're further away. She goes quite in depth into emotions and how to move out of negative emotions such as depression and anger into more positive ones like hope and joy/happiness (or what we perceive to be positive and negative emotions), so even you're not into LOA it's probably still worth it having a look at the book for those two chapters (Ch. 8 and 10).

The Emotional Compass by Ilse Sand

I just finished reading this and I found it helpful. Ilse looks at different emotions and writes about finding your primary feeling in the present and distancing yourself from your thoughts. She also has a website: https://highlysensitive-hsp.com/

Update 16/10/24: Ilse's site now redirects to a spam site, but here is her official website: https://ilsesand.com/

Infinite Possibilities by Mike Dooley

This is another Law of Attraction book and Mike has a chapter on emotions (Ch. 3) and how they can teach you what beliefs you have about yourself and the world.

Websites

First of all I recommend these articles on emotions by Melody Fletcher (see above):

She also has loads of posts on her site under the category of Emotions: https://melodyfletcher.com/law-of-attraction/article-categories/emotions/

Update 4/8/22: Updated link for the Emotions category of Melody's site: https://melodyfletcher.com/tag/emotions/

Kelsey Aida also has a post about emotions from a Law of Attraction perspective: https://kelseyaida.com/theinspirationalblog/the-abraham-hicks-emotional-guidance-scale

I referenced this article in my second post on Healing Health Anxietyhttps://suzanneheyn.com/what-to-do-when-youre-scared-of-your-emotions/

Here are a couple more good posts by Suzanne Heyn:

Update 4/8/22: I now sometimes get an antivirus warning when visiting the Suzanne Heyn links.

This is an Effortless Life post on the power of negative emotions: http://theeffortlesslife.rocks/the-power-of-negative-emotions/

And finally an Amina Makhdoom one on how to feel better: http://www.lunchwithcinderella.com/blog-posts/emotional-amnesia

Hope you enjoyed the introduction and found it helpful. I plan to do this series over the next few months. I may not post that quickly because it depends on how I'm feeling with my anxiety and stuff but I will try my best. :) First post in the series will probably be on anger. Think I'll start with the more negative emotions first!

You can also access the Resources and Helpful Articles pages any time by clicking on the highlighted links here or on the side bar. :)

P.S. Here are a couple of songs on emotions just because I love music! (The second one is an album teaser so not that long).
