Feeling States Round-up

Over 8 years ago (9 in November), I started a series called Feeling Your Emotions. The intention was to look at different emotions (such as anger, sadness and depression, fear and anxiety, peace and love) and get in touch with them, to help heal and move forward.

You can read the introduction here: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2017/11/feeling-your-emotions-introduction.html

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, so if you're having mental/physical issues please seek medical help in addition to reading this. :)

I've carried on the series sporadically since then, with my most recent post being in November 2024 (about peace). Prior to that, I wrote a recap of all the Feeling Your Emotions (FYE) posts in 2022. You can read it here: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2022/09/feeling-your-emotions-recap.html

In addition to that, I've written  "stand-alone" post about other feeling states (not specifically core or basic emotions) and just focusing on feeling better. While I currently don't have any plans for another post in the FYE series, I thought that I would share a round-up of the other posts which aren't part of  it. And also look a bit more at emotions and feelings. :)

Here are the posts:

Feeling Like a "Loser": https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2019/05/feeling-like-loser.html

Feeling Powerless: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2024/05/feeling-powerless.html

And also these two:

When You're Struggling: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2019/10/when-youre-struggling.html

When You've Been Down for Too Long: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2022/02/when-youve-been-down-for-too-long.html

And now here are a couple of posts from Pathway to Happiness about emotions:

Sources of Emotions: https://pathwaytohappiness.com/blog/sources-of-emotions/

Understanding Emotional Reactions: https://pathwaytohappiness.com/blog/understanding-emotional-reactions/

The first post describes two sources of emotions- ones that are a natural implicit response to certain experiences (e.g. feeling frightened if you are in danger and wanting to run away) and ones from programmed beliefs (being afraid to feel an emotion such as anger because we learnt as a child that it was "bad").

The second post takes a look at where our emotional reactions originate (often they are due to traumatic experiences in childhood).

Also, here is another post about how to feel and heal your negative emotions: https://thought.is/how-to-feel-and-heal-your-negative-emotions/

Note: It may not be helpful to you to think of emotions as "negative" and "positive" because they are all things that we feel naturally and labelling some of them as negative can make you think that you shouldn't be feeling them (which isn't true). But generally emotions such as anger, fear and guilt are perceived as negative and others like happiness, love and peace are thought of as positive.

In my Feeling Your Emotions- Neutral post I looked at the difference between feelings and emotions. I thought I would share that here: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2019/07/feeling-your-emotions-neutral.html

Sometimes it can be hard to access your emotions. Dominee of Self-Love Rainbow wrote a post about this. It mentions a term called "alexithymia" which I'd never heard of before. If you find it hard to tell how you're really feeling (whether occasionally or more often), visit the post for more about it: https://www.selfloverainbow.com/what-is-alexithymia-not-knowing-your-emotions

I hope you found this post helpful. :) I I thought it would be useful to have a round-up of the "feeling states" posts.

I haven't posted here much in the past couple of years because it's been a difficult time. I'd like to write more here during 2026 (although we're already nearly halfway through the year!) but I won't put pressure on myself. Next month I'll write my annual mid-year reflections post. Hope everyone reading this is doing well (or at least ok if things aren't so great right now). :)
