Mid-2026 Reflections

We're halfway through the year, so it's time for my annual mid-year reflections post! I started them in 2017, so 9 years ago (although my first one was in May, so just before the middle of the year).

I'm later posting this year because I didn't manage to get it finished last month. You can see my previous posts below:

I also write an end-of year post. You can see 2025's here: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2026/01/letting-go-of-2025.html

The first half of the year has been up and down. I've been struggling with anxiety  (health anxiety in particular) and feeling quite down at times, due to various things.

I mainly went to Happy CafĂ©  meetups (part of Action for Happiness) and also to the park and the beach As mentioned in last year's post, I most often go to the park and the beach as part of my celebrations for sabbats (seasonal festivals). I write about my celebrations on my seasonal living blog The Seasonal Life

I haven't done any belly dancing since last year but maybe I'll do some in the second half of the year.

In the 2025 post I said that didn't feel like writing about world events because it feels quite crazy! It continues to feel that way. Things can feel especially depressing with all the anti-immigrant stuff and racial tensions.

Speaking of that subject- there was a lot of the talk about the Wasian meetup in May. Large groups of Wasians (mixed white and Asian people, also known as Eurasian) met up in America. While some people saw this as a positive thing, others saw it more negatively.

As someone who is mixed race myself (black and white) I thought it was a good thing that they were able to create offline "real world" spaces to connect. I belong to several mixed race online communities but there's not often a chance to connect in real life.

Some people objected to the meetups because they were centred on mixed white and Asian people, so other groups (such as Blasians aka black/Asian people) felt excluded. I can completely understand that. But I also understand that it can be good to meet up with others who can relate to your specific experience. (There are some things that we all have in common as mixed people and then other things that are different depending on your "mix".) I belong to some online communities that are specifically for white/black people. And I also belong to general mixed race communities.

I've previously written about the lack of support for mixed race people in the mainstream. We're often forgotten, pushed to one side or forced into a monoracial/one race category. So that’s why I'm glad to see a mixed race group in the spotlight, even though it's not the same as my own specifically.

In UK specific news, our Prime Minster Keir Starmer just resigned. We seem to be having a bad run with our PMs in the past few years

We had two heatwaves in the UK in  May and June, and Europe in general had a heatwave.

Blogging wise, I had intended to be more active on here again. But I've only wrote two posts so far during 2026, apart from my monthly gratitude lists. The first one was my annual letting go post (written in January instead of New Year's Eve when I usually post them). And the second post was in May, a round-up of my previous posts about different "feeling states" (emotions/feelings): https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/2026/05/feeling-states-round-up.html

I have been more active on my entertainment blog Star Sparkle Blog (I post the most thee, twice a week) and The Seasonal Life (TSL). I write quarterly updates on TSL. You can see the winter-spring one here: https://livingseasonal.blogspot.com/2026/04/winter-spring-update-2026-happy-beltane.html

So that's it for now! I hope everyone is doing ok. If the first half of 2026 hasn't been so good for you, then I hope that the second half is better! :)
